If you’ve been around our blog for a while, you’ve probably noticed that we love zebras here at All About Learning Press!
Maybe that’s because we have our very own Ziggy Zebra. Or maybe it’s just because we love animals with black and white stripes! Either way, you’re going to love this quick and easy snack that features—you guessed it—zebra stripes!
Of all our ABC Snacks recipes, I think this is Ziggy Zebra’s favorite! It combines white popcorn and chocolate stripes for a yummy snack that’s fit for a zebra—or a couple of hungry preschoolers.
It sure looks like our adorable helpers were pleased with their zebra-striped popcorn, doesn’t it!

Zebra-striped Popcorn
Here’s what you’ll need to make 5 cups of striped popcorn:
- 5 cups of popped corn (approximately ¼ cup of kernels)
- ½ cup dark chocolate chips
- Parchment paper (optional)
Directions:
- Pop the corn kernels using your favorite method.
- Cover a cookie sheet or baking pan with parchment paper.
- Spread the popped corn in an even layer over the cookie sheet.
- Melt dark chocolate chips in a double boiler.
- Pour melted chocolate into a small plastic baggie.
- Snip one corner of the baggie to create a tiny hole.
- Squeeze the bag to “stripe” the popcorn with drizzled chocolate.
- Allow chocolate to harden.
- Break up your zebra-striped popcorn into chunks and enjoy!

Teaching Tips
- As you pop your corn, practice saying /z/–/z/–Ziggy Zebra with your child.
- Can your child form the letter Z with melted chocolate?
