Preschoolers usually aren’t fond of bumblebees, but this is one bee that won’t create mayhem when it starts buzzing around your kitchen.
Our most recent ABC Snacks recipe takes something potentially scary and turns it into something that’s sweet enough to eat. It’s a honey of a healthy snack that’s easy to make and even easier to eat—even for the littlest bee in your hive!
But this snack isn’t just about the alphabet. In addition to practicing the letter B while you create your bumblebee, you can work on counting, too!
While your preschooler assembles his bee, have her count the blueberries and cereal pieces as she places them in position. We had a cute helper for our bumblebee snack, and I think he would agree that it was a buzzing success!

Buzzing Bumblebee Snack
Here’s what you’ll need to make this snack for one child:
- 1 yellow apple
- 15 blueberries
- ½ cup yellow cereal (round puffs or “O”s)
- 2 carrot slivers
Directions:
- Cut a thin, circular slice off one side of the apple and position as the bee’s head.
- Quarter the remaining apple and remove the core and seeds.
- Form the bee’s body with alternating rows of cereal pieces and blueberries.
- Cut two thin, crescent-shaped slices from one of the apple quarters.
- Form wings by positioning the crescent-shaped apple slices next to the bee’s body.
- Cut two tiny, circular slices off the side of a blueberry to form eyes.
- Position two slivers of carrot at the top of the bee’s head to form antennae.
- Place a piece of cereal at the top of each antenna.
- Position a thin sliver of blueberry to form the bee’s stinger.
